Great product pages. Invisible shopfront.

Bee Cosmetics writes proper, keyword-rich product pages, then leaves the homepage Google ranks first as a bare brand name with no description. Five leaks at the front door of an otherwise well-built store.

https://beecosmetics.co.uk

Whoever built this knew exactly what they were doing on the product pages, then walked away before touching the homepage. The most important page on the site tells Google nothing but the brand name.

Bee Cosmetics sells natural skincare: face, hair, body, soap, gifts, a men's range, the lot. Free tracked delivery over £40, a loyalty scheme, a recycle-for-discount programme. It's a real, properly run shop, and the product pages prove someone cared, they carry keyword titles, written descriptions and product schema.

Which is what makes the homepage so frustrating. I pulled the live HTML as a browser and as Googlebot, identical both ways. The page that ranks first for the brand, the front door, was set up and never finished. Here's what's leaking.

THE LEAKS

5 WAYS THIS STORE LOSES MONEY.

01CRITICAL

The homepage title is just the brand name

The homepage title tag, the single most important on-page signal and the blue clickable line in Google, is "Bee Cosmetics" and nothing else. No mention of skincare, natural, vegan, soap, none of what you sell. It is the one place product pages got right and the homepage got wrong.

<title>Bee Cosmetics</title>
WHY IT COSTS YOU

People search "natural skincare UK", "vegan soap", "face serum", not "Bee Cosmetics", unless they already know you. Your highest-leverage ranking signal, on the page Google trusts most, names none of the things a new customer is actually typing. You're competing for the brand name you already own and skipping everything else.

THE FIX

Shopify admin → Online Store → Preferences → set the homepage title to something like "Bee Cosmetics, Natural Skincare & Soap (UK)". Keep the brand, add the substance, the way your product pages already do.

02HIGH

No meta description on the homepage

The homepage has no meta description at all. Empty. The collection pages are the same. Your product pages have them, which is what makes the gap so obvious, the template that writes good descriptions just never got pointed at the front of the shop.

<meta name="description"> not set on homepage
WHY IT COSTS YOU

When you don't write the snippet under your result, Google scrapes whatever text it can find and stitches its own. The one line that decides whether a stranger clicks you or the shop below you is being freestyled by a robot that doesn't care if you make the sale.

THE FIX

Add a 150-character homepage meta description that leads with who you are and what you sell, then the offer. Same Preferences screen as the title. Do the collection pages while you're there.

03HIGH

Shared links arrive bare

The Open Graph title, what renders when the link is pasted into WhatsApp, Instagram, a text to a friend, is also just "Bee Cosmetics". The OG description repeats the brand name, and there is no OG image set in the head at all.

<meta property="og:title" content="Bee Cosmetics"> · no og:image
WHY IT COSTS YOU

Skincare sells on the recommendation, one friend sending another a product. Right now that share lands as a plain grey box with the brand name and no photo. That's free word-of-mouth distribution, the cheapest growth there is, turning up looking like a dead link every time.

THE FIX

Fixing the title (Leak 1) carries most of this. Set a default social share image in the theme's social settings so shared links show a real photo, and let product pages pass their own image and name.

04MEDIUM

Your shop-all page is titled "Products"

The main catalogue page, /collections/all, is titled "Products – Bee Cosmetics" and its on-page heading reads "Collection: Products". The page a browsing customer lands on to see the whole range is named after a Shopify default.

<title>Products – Bee Cosmetics</title> · H1 "Collection: Products"
WHY IT COSTS YOU

That page could rank for "natural skincare range" or "vegan cosmetics UK" and pull in people who want to browse rather than buy one thing. Titled "Products", it competes for nothing and tells a shopper who lands there nothing about what makes the range worth scrolling.

THE FIX

Rename the collection in Shopify admin and give it a real title and H1, e.g. "Shop All Natural Skincare". Apply the same to every other collection sitting on the default.

05MEDIUM

Homepage images missing alt text

Of 15 images on the homepage, 5 ship with missing or empty alt attributes.

5 / 15 homepage images: alt missing or empty
WHY IT COSTS YOU

Alt text is how you rank in Google Images, a genuine traffic source for a visual product like cosmetics, how screen-reader users navigate, and a small relevance signal. Five blanks won't sink you, but it's the same story as the rest of the front page: built well, then left unfinished.

THE FIX

Add descriptive alt text to hero and homepage images. In Shopify, edit each image's alt field; for theme assets, set alt in the section settings.

This isn't a store that doesn't know what it's doing, the product pages are evidence it does. It's a store that finished the hard 90% and skipped the easy 10% at the front door, which is the part Google reads first. An afternoon in the admin fixes all five, and a well-built shop stops being invisible for the searches that would actually grow it.
