What is an llms.txt file?
It's a plain-markdown file at the root of your domain that gives AI models a clean, curated map of your site: a short description of what you do, then a list of your most important collections, products and pages. Instead of the model guessing from a messy crawl, you hand it the answer.
Do you need an app to generate one?
No. The file itself is just text, which is what this tool builds for you. The only part Shopify makes fiddly is hosting it at /llms.txt, because Shopify won't serve a root-level file the normal way.
